Penélope Menchaca is back on Telemundo this time as the host of "Suelta La Sopa Extra" a spin-off show of the daily gossip show titled "Suelta La Sopa." The Sunday edition will serve as an after show to reality shows "Top Chef Estrellas." Menchaca tells LatinTimes that the show as of now will focus on extra footage and interviews with celebrities that tie into the cooking competition and there are no plans, as of yet, to include entertainment news unrelated to the show. "The audience will get a summary of what they just saw and what they didn't see because we will have cameras that will record exclusive content just for us," Penelope said. "The idea is that Telemundo has an anchor show on Sunday's and this show would play on afterwards. It just an excuse to have fun." The host did reveal that after "Top Chef" concludes the companion show will continue with the second season of "La Voz Kids" and possibly "Miss Latina USA."
"Suelta La Sopa Extra" will compete directly with "Sal y Pimienta" on the Univision network that serves the same purpose to shows like "Nuestra Belleza Latina" and "Mira Quien Baila." Although "Top Chef Estrellas" has already finished production, "Extra" is filmed live on Sundays and will have the weekly cast-off from the night on the companion show. Menchaca told us, that just like the main show, the spinoff will have entertainment gurus that will give their input and add sass to the program. "For example Christian [Chávez] told us that he was going through a bad moment in his life but he didn't say why and on last Sunday's episode he revealed why it was a tough time," she said. "We will also have part of the cast, the judges, not just the eliminated star ... it could be someone that is competing at the time going in to the final and it will be changing every week."
Menchaca has been a long time Los Angeles resident and will be traveling back and forth to Miami for the new Telemundo production. When we asked if she had other projects being developed she revealed she wanted to return to hosting a game show. "We want to do a daily show with contestants, games and where we can laugh," she said. If you remember, Penélope was the host of Telemundo's "12 Corazones" dating game show that ran for many years. That show was so successful that Televisa in Mexico developed their own version and cast the Mexican host in their local version and spun it off into "12 Corazones Rumbo Al Altar" focusing on couples wanting to win the wedding of their dreams. "Suelta La Sopa Extra" will air every Sunday starting at 10pm ET/PT on Telemundo.
