'Peacemaker' Season 2: James Gunn Spills Secret on New Spin-off Project

Fans of DC will rejoice! The second season of HBO Max's "Peacemaker" has been confirmed. This was verified just hours before the final episode of John Cena's DC Comics series aired.

After all of the critical accolades and positive feedback, the series was expected to return for a second season. It has become the most streamed series on HBO Max to date.

If you liked the first season of "Peacemaker" as much as other fans did, the big question now is whether it will be renewed. Fansided said Season 1 ended the subplot with the Butterflies satisfyingly, but this is a comic book program, so there will be plenty of material to pull from for "Peacemaker" 's future exploits.

James Gunn directed five episodes and authored the entire first season of "Peacemaker." He will write and produce the entire second season. This is unusual in Hollywood because it means he'll have a lot of work to do, but it'll give Season 2 a more coherent feel than Season 1.

Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max said (via Deadline): "The brilliance of James Gunn once again shines with Peacemaker . He took this character, brought to life by the inimitable John Cena, and created an exceptional series that's simultaneously thrilling, hilarious and heartfelt, showcasing the humanity beneath this team of misfits living in a superhuman world. As the first original DC show to have its series premiere on HBO Max, we are thrilled that the viewers agreed to give peace a f*cking chance."

There's no word on when Peacemaker season 2 will air, but it will most likely be a while. But Gunn gave Radio Times a few indications as to where the story of gun-toting vigilante Peacemaker (John Cena) and his comrades might go next, saying he had "tonnes" of ideas for what's coming up.

"I think that we see where [season 1] ends up. We see where Peacemaker is," Gunn said.

He added: "And I think it's a whole other level of emotional difficulty that we're getting into with him. I'm excited to explore that."

Gunn expressed interest in learning more about the supporting actors, particularly the roles played by Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Freddie Stroma, who collaborated with Peacemaker throughout the series.

Even still, fans may have to wait a bit to learn what those mysteries are. Gunn also revealed that season 2 of Peacemaker isn't his first focus right now.
