A preacher from southeast Missouri was suspended after he made sexist comments berating married women who don't prioritize their appearances and urged them to look like the former First Lady Melania Trump to prevent their husbands from cheating on them.
Stewart-Allen Clark, an American pastor, has been dismissed after a sermon in which he advised women to be slim and attractive in order for their husbands to remain loyal to them. Through his sermon, he made an example out of Melania Trump's looks, which he considered to be the pinnacle of beauty.
The pastor for the 1st General Baptist Church in Malden, Missouri infuriated many when he chided women who gained weight and look like "a butch" or fail to work on being "good-looking" in order to keep their husbands content, reported CBS News.
Reagan Williams, who first posted the video on Facebook said the Baptist pastor is apparently homophobic and also encouraged marital rape. According to the post, the preacher has made several derogatory and offensive remarks in his previous sermons where the people from the congregation walked out in disgust.
In the video that has been widely circulated and criticized, the New York Daily News wrote that the preacher can be seen playing a picture of the former first lady in the background as he tells women that they are probably a participation trophy, unlike Melania Trump, who he considers to be “trophy wife.”
"I'm not saying every woman can be the epic - the epic – trophy wife of all time like Melania Trump, most women can't be trophy wives, but you know ... maybe you're a participation trophy," he says in the video. It's vital that the man thinks his wife is hot, Clark said in the video, chastising wives and telling them not to stink or look ugly.
After the sermon from February, Pastor Stewart-Allen Clark of the Malden First General Baptist Church voluntarily went on leave and enrolled in counseling.
Many took to Twitter to express their displeasure about the preacher’s comments and shallow thinking that diminished women to mere bodies of beauty.
In a statement posted on the 1st General Baptist church’s website, Clark wrote, “I made insensitive remarks about women and made statements deemed unbiblical. To the ladies within the church, ladies in the community, and those viewing our Livestream; I want to say I am deeply sorry for any and all pain or distress that my words brought on you.” Read the full statement here.
He is currently dismissed as a preacher and has been seeking counseling.
