Parents Left 'Severely Malnourished' Babies Strapped in Car Seat for Days, Police Say

Four members of a Frankfort, Kentucky family are behind bars after authorities discovered two young children who had been left confined for days in horrific conditions.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office arrested 21-year-old Megan Edgin on January 2 after finding her two-year-old and seven-month-old children had reportedly been strapped into a car seat and a swing for several days. According to arrest records obtained by Fox 56, both children were "severely malnourished" and covered in urine and feces that appeared to be several days old.

Deputies also found a cat and two severely underfed dogs in the home on Duckers Road. One dog had been kept in a cage "24/7," which was coated in feces and lacked food or water. The dog was stained with feces and urine, reflecting the neglect.

Edgin now faces charges of first-degree criminal abuse of a child 12 or under, second-degree cruelty to animals, and failure to vaccinate dogs against rabies.

On January 9, authorities arrested three additional family members: the children's father, 23-year-old Christian Dunaway, and their grandparents, Douglas Dunaway, 51, and Terrie Dunaway, 43. All three face identical charges.

The four suspects are currently being held at the Franklin County Regional Jail.
