Pam Bondi Refuses to Answer If Trump's Thoughts on Deporting American Citizens is 'Legal': 'Given a Directive to Make America Safe Again'

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi refused to answer whether President Donald Trump pondering about possibly deporting American citizens is "legal" in a stunning Fox News interview.

Host Jesse Watters asked the attorney general whether it would be "legal" to send "the most horrible people in this country" to the maximum security prison, even if they are U.S. citizens, as Trump declared hours earlier during a meeting with El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele.

"These are Americans who he is saying who have committed the most heinous crimes in our country, and crime is going to decrease dramatically because he has given us a directive to make America safe again," Bondi stated in a clip circulating on X.

"These people need to be locked up as long as they can, as long as the law allows. We're not gonna let 'em go anywhere, and if we have to build more prisons in our country, we will do it," she continued.

"That's what I thought," Watters responded while laughing.

The interview came hours after Trump declared "home-grown criminals" would be deported to El Salvador's Terrorism Confinement Center during a meeting with the nation's president at the White House on Monday. Bondi appeared on Fox News to seemingly reinforce Trump's controversial and likely unconstitutional statement.

This came after both Trump and Bukele doubled down on refusing to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to America after the Trump administration mistakenly sent him to the Terrorism Confinement Center last month, alleging he had ties to MS-13. Garcia's attorneys have repeatedly denied all allegations of gang affiliation.
