Oscars 2014 are just weeks away and as ever those with a gambler's mind are thinking about odds, odds, odds. Those of you with some cash to spare will be happy to know that several Latinos competing for awards are among the hot favorites as far as gambling odds are concerned. Following a string of awards victories, Alfonso Cuaron is the heavy favorite for the Best Director Oscar with 1/4 odds. Meanwhile Lupita Nyong'o has overtaken Jennifer Lawrence in the Best Supporting Actress category with 4/9 odds.
"12 Years A Slave" has emerged as the dominant favorite in the Best Picture category with 1/3 odds, followed by "American Hustle" at 3-to-1 odds. Meanwhile the 'Best Actor' category is still being hotly contested. According to America's Line, Chiwetel Ejiofor is leading with 1/2 odds, however, according to betting aggregate Odds Checker, Mathew McConaughey is leading with 1-to-2 odds. Cate Blanchett is perhaps the surest bet with 1/8 odds.
Jared Leto is the heavy favorite in the Best Supporting Actor category with 1/5 odds. At the nominations announcement, producers, Craig Zadan andNeil Meron said "the show will honor big-screen real-life heroes, super heroes, popular heroes and animated heroes, both past and present, ass well as the bold filmmakers who bring them to life. Of course, there will be no shortage of comedy with Ellen DeGeneres as our host. There may also be a few musical surprises along the way."
We are just excited to see that not only are some of our favorite Latinos nominated, but also their odds of winning are on the up and up!
