Britney Spears is the latest celebrity named as a potential guest star for the coming season of "Orange is the New Black." Unfortunately, Netflix nor the writers or showrunners have confirmed Spears guest appearances or even expressed any interest in hiring the singer. So where did the rumor come from?
Well in an interview with Entertainment Tonight actress Taryn Manning, who plays Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett in the Netflix series, stated that if she had it her way she would choose her "Crossroads" co-star Britney Spears to guest star on the show.
"Um, I mean, I don't have to make up a character - she's such a good actor that I feel like they could do anything with her," Manning said of Spears. "I was so impressed working with her I was like - she's just very sincere in her acting, you know? It's like everyone wanted to maybe hope that she's not gonna be good but she was great."
Spears is no stranger to acting as she has appeared on "Saturday Night Live," "Will and Grace," "How I Met Your Mother" and is set to have a guest role on the CW's "Jane the Virgin." However, that doesn't mean she is coming to "Orange is the New Black" and we bet our money that she won't but we could be wrong.
Meanwhile, fans are still wondering if Natasha Lyonne will return as Nicky Nichols. The writers are stubbornly staying quiet on this front, refusing to reveal whether the character will return next season.
Back in July Lyonne spoke with TV Guide and was quite vague about her return to the series. When asked the question if fans would see Nicky again in the fourth season of "OITNB" she responded:
"I certainly don't know what's in Jenji's mind, but I would love to move inside of Jenji's mind because it is a vast and endless landscape of imagination. So, who knows? And I could certainly see a million different avenues to go down... I mean, I love this show so much. I love everybody that I've gotten to work with. And I'm a big fan of the whole situation."
Furthermore, Kate Mulgrew feels that Nicky's character development is far from over, and has spoken about how much she wants a reunion between Red and her surrogate daughter.
"You know I love my daughters, but she went to max for the wrong reasons. So we have to see if there’s any leeway," Mulgrew said. "Where does Red relax her laws? Is it always going to be tough love or is there room for forgiveness? Because I think there’s a kind of loneliness that grows and grows and grows and grows when you’re in prison."
The fourth season of "Orange is the New Black" is set to return Summer 2016.
