Patrick Gasienica, a renowned Olympic ski jumper, has sadly died at the young age of 24.

According to the police, they responded to a two-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle in Illinois on Monday evening.

Gasienica, who was riding the motorcycle, was immediately taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.

Tracy Dickens, the chief of police at Bull Valley Police Department, stated that the preliminary investigation suggests that the motorcycle "lost control and crossed the center lane of traffic."

Born in Mchenry, Illinois, Gasienica proudly represented the USA in the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, marking his debut in the prestigious event, CNN reported.

"We don't really have a lot of jumpers, but it's getting better," Gasienica said last year in China. "Especially since the pandemic, a lot of different kids are joining the different clubs around America. Hopefully, in a couple of years -- five, 10, maybe -- we'll have a really, really great team."

He began his journey in the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping in 2015 and went on to represent the United States at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in 2016 and 2017, as well as the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld.

USA Nordic, in a statement published by U.S. Ski & Snowboard, expressed their sorrow over his untimely death.

"USA Nordic and the Ski Jumping community are saddened to hear about the passing of Patrick Gasienica," USA Nordic said in a statement on Twitter.

"A 2022 Beijing Winter Olympian, Patrick was an incredible competitor, teammate and friend."

They added: "He will be dearly missed. Rest in peace, Patrick."
