An 8-year-old girl was found shopping at a Target store she had driven herself to after her family reported she was missing along with the family's SUV.
The young girl's family called police to notify them that their young daughter and Nissan Rogue had been missing since around 7 a.m. on Sunday. The family's neighbors then provided Ring camera footage showing the girl climbing into the car and driving off at that time, according to a police report obtained by Cleveland 19 News.
The Bedford police officers then issued an alert that included a description of the missing girl and vehicle. The department was then notified of a small child driving a vehicle that matched the alert's description.
Shortly thereafter, the Bainbridge Police Department located the missing vehicle in the local Target's parking lot. FOX 8 reported that the store is located about 10 miles, or a 20- to 25-minute drive, from where the girl was reported missing.
Police then found the girl shopping inside Target before her family arrived to pick her up along with the vehicle.
According to the police report, the girl told police she hit a mailbox on her way to Target. Officers confirmed the vehicle was damaged, but, fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
The girl will not face any legal repercussions for her joy ride since she is too young to be charged criminally.
