The New York Police Department (NYPD) said the shooting outside a private event in Jamaica, Queens, on New Year's Day, was not a terrorist attack as tensions run high following such an incident in New Orleans on the same day.

10 people were injured in the attack, conducted by three or four men who opened fire at a group standing in line outside the event. Six women and four men, all aged between 16 and to, were struck by gunfire. None of them are in critical condition and all are expected to survive.

NYPD continues looking for the perpetrators, who fired some 30 shots at the group before fleeing the scene in a gray Infiniti sedan. Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera told press the shooting was not "terrorism" but that the motive was not immediately known. He added that there is "zero tolerance for these senseless shootings."

Authorities did call the New Orleans attack as a terrorist one, after an Army veteran drove through a crowd with an ISIS flag on his truck, killing at least 15 people. He was identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas and the FBI does not believe he was working alone. In fact, Rep. Troy Carter confirmed that law enforcement is investigating more than one suspect in the attack on Bourbon Street.

A Louisiana State Police bulletin obtained by The Associated Press and shared with law enforcement offered further detail.

According to the document, surveillance footage shows a woman and three men placing one of multiple improvised explosive devices discovered in the French Quarter.

Jabbar was driving a white Ford pickup truck with Texas plates when he carried out the attack. It appears that it was rented in a vehicle-sharing app.

After crashing the vehicle he started shooting at New Orleans police officers who had responded to the scene. Officers returned fire, and Din-Jabbar was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Weapons and a potential IED were also found on the trailer hitch of the truck. Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter of the city.

The FBI is the lead investigative agency and said it was "aggressively running down all leads to identify any possible associates of the subject."
