The inaction of the police for years after 35-year-old Valentina Veleva led her to sue the police department as well as the state. She claims that Miguel Delacruz, a policeman with the New York Police Department, recorded them having sex and threatened to disseminate the videos if she tried to contact him again.

Since complaining about the incident that occurred on March 14, 2017, the victim claims that no action has been taken by the authorities.

Veleva and Delacruz knew each other for around a year as they were both regular patrons of a bar named Teal in Queens, New York. On the night of March 13, 2017, the two after getting drunk, drove to the policeman’s home where they proceeded to have sexual intercourse.

Veleva claims that she left for home around 3:00 a.m. and texted Delacruz multiple times after reaching home. Worried that he will be late for work, the woman tried to call him. A woman answered the phone but the call got disconnected. Later the accused man texted the victim telling her to keep quiet about their hook-up. He sent her a 12-second clip of her performing oral sex on him. He said that he had more videos and threatened to share them.

New York Post reported that Delacruz was a married man and he used the videos to prevent his family from finding out. The accused even told the victim that he had similar videos of multiple other women.

Distressed by the thought of the videos being leaked, Veleva reported the crime of unlawful surveillance to the Civilian Complaint Review Board and to the NYPD. Instead of the NYPD filing a criminal complaint, the case was recorded as a family court incident report. The investigation has also been compromised as the investigator, Sargent Cliff Nieves, is being investigated for his involvement in prostitution and gambling racket.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Veleva said that Nieves could not do much as the district attorney’s office and the NYPD did not want him to do anything. For years of inaction, the victim is suing the state and the police department for unspecified damages.

The district attorney’s office released a statement that they are looking into the serious incident. A New York City Law Department spokesperson also assured that the case will be reviewed.
