Roger Dean, a 37-year-old registered nurse was on duty when he set fire to the nursing home where he worked. It was one of Sydney's most atrocious incidents that left 11 people dead.
Dean pleaded guilty to murdering the patients and to causing grievous bodily harm to another eight nursing home residents that were also injured by the blaze in 2011.
After the incident, Roger Dean even appeared on television describing his efforts to rescue trapped people at the nursing home, located in the suburb of Quakers Hill.
Police had questioned him before the fire over some theft allegations, and he had pleaded guilty to stealing prescription drugs from the home. Officers said he stole more than 200 pills the night before the tragic arson.
Following his arrest, Dean told police that satan made him do it.
He had only worked at the Quaker Hills home for two months before the fire and is now potentially facing a life sentence after his pleas.
