North Korea seems no longer to be in a position to reconcile with its southern neighbor, confirms its decision to reject South Korea’s offer to send special envoys amid escalating tensions between the two nations.

North Korea said on Wednesday that it has stalled all efforts to reconcile and would be redeploying troops to the border areas, according to state media agency KCNA.

The announcement has come a day after North Korea demolished the liaison office, which was established in 2018 as a part of the peace agreement between the two countries and rivals.

North Korea’s decision will put the pressure on South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his dire efforts to reconcile with the North. Moon voluntarily offered to mediate discussions between the U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un in 2017.

Several meetings between the two world leaders took place throughout 2018 and 2019 as a result of Moon’s mediation. Even though the meetings taking place symbolized a lot of positive outcomes that the three countries may eventually observe in the future, nothing of that extent happened.

North Korea’s denuclearization for a part of the discussion, to which, the supreme leader agreed. However, the country has blamed the U.S. for not doing enough to maintain peace in the Korean Peninsula since the meetings and may have even decided to restore its nuclear and missile programs.

Now that North Korea has rejected South’s offer for reconciliation, it may further pose the trouble for Trump, who is already battling the pandemic in his own country amid vast outrage among public and anti-racism protests.

“The solution to the present crisis between the North and the South caused by the incompetence and irresponsibility of the South Korean authorities is impossible and it can be terminated only when the proper price is paid,” KCNA reports on Tuesday, June 16.

Kim Jong-Un’s sister criticized the neighboring president for not implementing the 2018 pact and to “put his neck into the noose of pro-U.S. flunkeyism.”
