Nigeria keep its 2014 World Cup hopes alive with a solid effort in a 1-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina in a key Group F 2014 World Cup matchup. Bosnia, who was slightly favored, did not play the best of soccer as Nigeria turned on its Super Eagles wings and played with more passion than in its previous World Cup Opener.

Bosnia had its opportunities to tie up the match but just could not seem to put the bisket in the basket. Nigeria opened the scoring in the first half with a 29’ minute goal on a nicely timed run by Forward Peter Odemwingie who received a cross from the right side to tap in the games only goal.

Bosnia had a goal taken away in the first half that should have stood and tied the game, as the sideline referee called a offside on Bosnian Forward Edin Dzenko as he ran through for a clear scoring opportunity which he hammered home but the goal was disallowed. Replays showed that Dzenko perfectly timed his run and the play should have stood but Bosnia would not have that type of luck as the goal wa called back. Bosnia also had a clear as day opportunity in front of the goal in extra time but Bosnian Forward Dzenko, who happened to use his arms to control the ball in the box, could not hammer home the ball and ended up mishitting the ball right at Nigeria’s keeper Vincent Enyeama who kicked saved the muffled shot and the ball then caromed of the post and out of play.

Nigeria will now take on Argentina in its final Group F Match with four points, with a very good opportunity to advance to the next round. With Iran losing to Argentina today that put the Super Eagles in sole posession of second place in its bracket with Bosnia in last place with zero points in two losses so far and Iran with a single point from a tie with Nigeria.
