It's unbelievable how time flies. It feels like only yesterday we were tuning in to MTV to watch "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica" especially after the first episode, where we were blown away by Jessica's deep existential crisis: "Is this chicken or is this fish?"
After that day, we were all hooked. So it was a little sad to say goodbye to the show, and inevitable to shed a tear or two when it was of public knowledge that the couple was getting a divorce.
What people didn't realize, until now, is that Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson ended their marriage eight years ago, but as far as Lachey is concerned, it may as well have been eight decades ago, as he told Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live" host Andy Cohen, adding that his relationship with his ex-wife felt like a part of some distant era in history.
"It's been years since the last time I talked to Jessica. Years. Honestly, probably six years... It was like another lifetime ago," Lachey told Andy Cohen.
And it sure feels like a lifetime ago, given that both Nick and Jessica have moved on, created new families and embarked on new projects. Nick is married to Vanessa Minnillo and in Sept. 2012 they welcomed a baby boy named Camden. Jessica is engaged to Eric Johnson, with whom she has a 1-year-old daughter, Maxwell, and is pregnant with baby número dos.
Andy Cohen wasn't shy with his questions, as he asked about the best thing of not having Joe Simpson as a father-in-law anymore, to which Lachey responded: "I don't have to play grab-ass under the table on Easter Sunday."
It sure was a bizarre answer, but fans loved it, even though Drew, Nick's brother, said that their publicist was probably freaking out at the moment.
All in all, Nick Lachey seemed very diplomatic when answering questions about Jessica Simpson, which lets us know that it's all in the past, and there are no hard feelings between the two of them.
