Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans has a lot on his mind right now and a lawsuit is something he does not need. The 25-year-old is being charged with sexual assault, something he believes is nothing more than an effort to extort money from him.
Watson was getting a massage from an unnamed woman but allegedly went too far. He would respond to the allegations on Twitter not long after Houston-based lawyer Tony Buzzbee informed Fox 26 of the incident.
“As a result of a social media post by a publicity-seeking plaintiff’s lawyer, I recently became aware of a lawsuit that has apparently been filed against me,” Watson wrote. “I have not yet seen the complaint, but I know this: I Have never treated any woman with anything than the utmost respect. The plaintiff’s lawyer claims that this isn’t about money, but before filing suit he made a baseless six-figure settlement demand, which I quickly rejected.”
Watson plans to clear his name. Buzzbee said that the issue with the NFL star is not solely about money but dignity.
“This case we just filed against Watson isn’t about money — it’s about dignity and stopping behavior that should be stopped, NOW!” Buzbee said.
The issue becomes an unwanted sidelight to Watson who has been in the middle of NFL trade talks. The three-time Pro Bowler wants out of Houston after the Texans failed to include him in team decision-making. That includes the hiring of Nick Caserio as the team’s new general manager which did not sit well with Watson.
The Texans are aware of the civil lawsuit that Watson is facing and are looking into the matter. They admitted that this was the first time they have heard of it and want more information before deciding on what to do next with the 25-year-old disgruntled quarterback.
