The Cleveland Browns are eager to find out what the decision will be on Deshaun Watson. There are murmurs that the three-time Pro Bowler could be meted a suspension for his legal troubles, depending on the result of arbitration.
The worst-case scenario could see Watson being suspended for an entire year. However, the 26-year-old quarterback and his group are planning to sue the NFL if a year-long suspension is handed down, Charles Robinson of Yahoo reported.
There is a chance, however, that Watson could be handed a lower penalty where he would miss two to eight games. Aware of this possibility, the Browns are already taking steps to be prepared if that should be the case.
If Watson is unavailable, Jacoby Brissett could end up being the Browns' starting quarterback for those games. But the need to take in a backup quarterback may be needed.
A name that has been linked to Cleveland is Cam Newton. The 2017 NFL MVP is one of many interesting names in the free agent market who could make the grade.
Should the Browns take in Newton, there is a chance that he could be called upon to serve as the Browns’ starting QB. This will likely depend on how the 2020 NFL Passing Yards leader and Brissett perform when the team opens training camp on July 26.
However, Newton is not the only NFL veteran on the radar of the Browns. Other names in the list of Cleveland include A.J. McCarron and Mike Glennon according to May Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
Regardless of the choice would be Newton, McCarron or Glennon, such may be a short-term fix for the Browns. But before moving, the Browns await the fate of Watson following the sexual assault allegations hurled at him by different women.
