The Cleveland Browns have yet to decide on the fate of Baker Mayfield and it appears doing so will take some time.
With Deshaun Watson on board, a move that Mayfield was not too happy about since he was not told and learned about only through social media, the logical move seen is to deal Mayfield to another team.
No less than Mayfield himself posted on social media his goodbye to Cleveland but nothing has gone down. Hence, for now, the 26-year-old remains a Brown until an acceptable deal comes Cleveland’s way.
And based on the report of NFL Insider Josina Anderson, it seems that Mayfield may have to wait a while. So far, the Browns have yet to get a willing trade partner and a worst-case scenario would be for the top pick of the 2018 NFL Draft to stay in Cleveland throughout the 2022 season.
The Browns are employing a patient approach in handling the situation of Baker Mayfield. Also, it affirms that the Browns will not deal away Mayfield easily.
“I wouldn’t really get into that type of speculation. But the reality of it is, quarterbacks are valuable,” Browns GM Andrew Berry said during the NFL annual meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 29 via reporter Zac Jackson.
“Baker is a good player and you can’t have enough good players on your roster. We’ve already planned to make it work and we’ll just see how the next few weeks go, the next few months.”
Hence, it appears Mayfield may have to sit tight and wait. It is a situation that the San Francisco 49ers have also been applying to Jimmy Garoppolo, another quarterback that may be dealt at some point.
This means that it may take a while before Mayfield can find a new home – a development that will likely not sit well with the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner.
