Jerry Jones, the team owner of the Dallas Cowboys and Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots are two of the most polarizing figures in the NFL. Hence, it would be a big deal if these two interact – not to mention in a heated manner.
Per reports, Jones and Kraft had a heated exchange during a league meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The gathering, which also reportedly included other NFL team owners, was voting on whether or not they would allow the compensation committee to negotiate a new contract with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The measure passed 31-1, the lone dissenter of which was Jones.
However, the Cowboys owner did not hide his displeasure with the result of the voting, ESPN reported. It came to a point where he and Kraft ended up in a heated exchange according to sources.
At one point, Jones allegedly said: “Don’t f-k with me.” Kraft responded to it by saying “Excuse me?”
Jones would respond again by saying “Don’t mess with me.” From there, the measure was passed without further incident.
It appears Jones was not too pleased with the structure of Goodell’s contract, particularly the part where he was awarded a bonus based on financial indicators. For the Cowboys team owner, feels that this was too vague and not connected to a strict set of financial goals and metrics without a more rigorous review.
“He is sensitive to awarding a big bonus to Roger before he performs and earns it,” an unnamed source told the outlet.
However, it appears that Jones was the only one who was not aligned with Goodell’s case.
Aside from that, some thought that the meeting would also tackle the case of Washington Commanders Dan Snyder who is facing investigations on the workplace structure of the team.
Moreso, Snyder is also dealing with sexual misconduct allegations. Unfortunately, it remains unclear if it was ever brought up or whether steps were taken to address it.
