The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, fresh off a loss to the Atlanta Falcons, have decided to bring in another wide receiver. The Buccaneers have signed Josh Huff to their practice squad according to ESPN.
Huff was recently cut by the Philadelphia Eagles after he was arrested for illegally possessing a firearm without a license and was also hit with a DUI charge. Huff apologized immediately after the incident, but Eagles management wasn’t buying his sincerity, and frankly, he hasn’t lived up to his third round draft status.
"We signed him to the practice squad. That's it. All your practice squad guys are developmental guys you're trying to look at. We had Josh in the Senior Bowl a few years ago when I was coaching in Atlanta. We've got 10 guys on our practice squad and we're trying to develop those guys into guys who could help us down the road," Buccaneers Head Coach Dirk Koetter said.
Huff never panned in the City of Brotherly Love as great wide receiver having never even eclipsed the 350 yard plateau. His 27 catches last season is a career high. He did however make a difference on special teams with 1,165 kick return yards and an outstanding 27.7 yards per return average.
Considering Vincent Jackson is on season ending Injured Reserve with a torn ACL, Huff could make a difference there if he makes the active roster. Let’s also not forget that Mike Evans suffered a head injury last game and is listed as “questionable” with concussion like symptoms.
The Buccaneers play the Chicago Bears in their next game. Whether or not Huff plays, or is even on the roster, remains to be seen.
