The return of the Dodge Challenger in 2008 has a lot to do with Chrysler Groups robust resurgence in the auto industry. Keeping itself relevant, the Dodge Challenger will receive a slight update in 2013, offering a new launch control system to make the Mopar muscle even quicker out of the pocket.

However, is there room in Chrysler's future line-up for two retro-modern muscle cars? A new report has revealed Chrysler's plans to not only offer the Dodge Challenger, but introduce a new Barracuda model under the SRT nameplate.

A fully redesigned Challenger won't debut until 2015. Reports suggest the next-generation Challenger will utilize an updated platform that will reportedly ride a two or three inches shorter wheelbase for more responsive handling. According to reports, the Dodge Challenger will offer base and R/T variants but its halo SRT8 model will now be left to Chrysler's newly elevated standalone SRT brand.

This is where the Barracuda comes in. Under its new SRT guise, the Challenger SRT8 will later be regarded as the SRT Barracuda. No words on whether the SRT Barracuda will receive unique styling to separate itself from the Challenger, but reports have revealed that the Barracuda will be working with a brand-new 6.2 liter supercharged V8 powerplant that's slated to take on the likes of the Chevy Camaro ZL1 and Ford Shelby GT500.

Look out for more information on the upcoming Challenger and Barracuda. Chrysler expects its next-generation muscle cars to make their debut by the first half of 2014, which suggests its first public unveiling may be scheduled as soon as next year's North American International Auto Show.
