There won’t be any salsa dances on Monday Night Football when the New York Giants take on the Cincinnati Bengals. Well, not from Victor Cruz anyway.
According to ESPN, Cruz will not play tonight because of a low ankle sprain that he suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles last week.
This news doesn’t come as a huge surprise considering Cruz did not practice this entire week. More than likely Cruz will be able to play against the Chicago Bears next week. Fortunately for the Giants, their greatest strength comes at the wide receiver position. Veteran quarterback Eli Manning has a lot to work with.
"I think coach (Ben McAdoo) is just taking care of me a little bit. He came up to me and said that they were going to move some guys around and just making sure that everyone is fresh and that they are using all of our tools out there, said Cruz."
The 30-year-old Puerto Rican wide receiver missed all of last season because of a torn patellar tendon, but he has appeared in all eight of the Giants games so far. He ranks third among Giants receivers in terms of receiving yards and receptions behind only Odell Beckham Jr. and rookie wide out Sterling Shepard. Cruz has 377 receiving yards with one touchdown grab this season.
Normally a game against the AFC North isn’t a must win scenario, but the Giants are being backed into a corner. The Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins all won this week, meaning if the Giants fail to beat the Bengals, they would be the only NFC East team not to win in Week 10 essentially going 0-4.
Cruz is still under contract with the Giants until the end of the 2018 season.
