New Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer Reveals Warrior Princess Peach

An exciting new trailer just dropped for the upcoming animated film The Super Mario Bros. based on the world of Super Mario Bros. from Illumination and Nintendo Games. The film distributed by Universal Pictures will be released in N. America on April 7, 2023 and on April 28, 2023 in Japan. Nintendo gave us a new trailer, with a longer opportunity to hear Chris Pratt voice the iconic plumber. We also got the first official glimpse of Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen) and Anya Taylor-Joy’s Princess Peach in her rendition of the Mushroom Monarch.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is an upcoming computer-animated fantasy adventure/comedy film based on the iconic video game series Super Mario published by Nintendo. Mario is near-unanimously considered to be the most famous character in the video game industry and an established pop culture icon. The film is the third feature film adaptation of the Super Mario video game series, following the Japanese anime film Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! (1986) and the American live-action film Super Mario Bros. (1993). The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (collaborators on Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) and from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Illuminations’s Minions: The Rise of Gru).

The amusing and bright-colored trailer felt just like the aesthetic of the games and gives the ultimate feelings of nostalgia. Fans of all ages can definitely enjoy this movie. The trailer not only revealed key characters, but Mario Karts, adorable mushrooms and Donkey Kong! Bowser looks fantastic, Princess Peach looks unstoppable, and the environments look just like the games.

The trailer ultimately draws people in, many fans are looking forward to the film despite it’s initial reluctance of casting Chris Pratt as the legendary Italian plumber. Since the 1980’s the Mario games have entertained fans worldwide with a huge fan base that spans generations. The Super Mario games are set primarily in the fictional Mushroom Kingdom, typically with Mario as the playable character. He is usually joined by his brother, Luigi, and often by other members of the Mario cast.

The film's ensemble voice cast features Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario, and also includes Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong), Fred Armisen (Cranky Kong), Sebastian Maniscalco (Foreman Spike), Charles Martinet (original Mario), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek).

The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and by Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo. The film will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and released worldwide by Universal Pictures.
