Since British-Born CNN anchor Piers Morgan's recent extremely vocal comments supporting gun control in the aftermath of the second-deadliest school shooting ever at Sandy Hook Elementary, more than 84,000 people have signed a White House petition seeking to have him deported. The petition is now the third most popular on the White House's "We the People" digital petition website.

With more than three times the amount of required to prompt a White House response, the petition reads: "British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens."

The petition was begun on Dec. 21 by an Austin, Texas, user named "Kurt N," according to the New York Daily News.

Of course, just because some Americans have grown weary of the Brit's opinions on gun control, that doesn't mean everyone in his homeland is necessarily ready to welcome him back with open arms. Another petition on the White House's digital petition website supporting Morgan's right to free speech but reminding the U.S. that "no one in the U.K. wants him back" is gaining traction. The petition argues: We want to keep Piers Morgan in the USA.There are two very good reasons for this. Firstly, the first amendment. Second and the more important point. No one in the UK wants him back. Actually there is a third. It will be hilarious to see how loads of angry Americans react."

As of 5 p.m. EST Thursday, over 6,500 people had signed the "Keep Piers Morgan in the USA" petition. The petition was started Christmas Day by a presumably British user who goes by the name "Janusz J," the New York Daily News reported.

Morgan, a former newspaper editor, caused tremendous uproar among gun-rights advocates when he interviewed Gun Owners of America executive director Larry Pratt on CNN. Morgan did little to hide his feelings about gun control, appearing incredulous when Pratt suggested more guns were the answer to the gun control debate.

"You're an unbelievably stupid man, aren't you?" Morgan said during debate.

For his part, Morgan is laughing off the deportation petition.

"Merry Christmas!" he tweeted Tuesday. "Even to those who want me deported."
