Drawing ever closer to the upcoming Paris Motor Show later this September, Peugeot joins in the excitement and announced a major debut of their own -- the Peugeot Onyx supercar concept, created by Peugeot designers from Peugeot Sport in collaboration with the PSA Peugeot-Citroen R&D department.
With a minimalist approach to design, the Onyx is a mid-engine supercar utilizing unprocessed raw material construction as its main theme. The doors and wings of the Onyx concept are fashioned from copper sheets and are formed by hand. Naked carbon-fiber panels make the rest of the body while lightweight acrylics are applied for the windows and the roof.

Inside, the occupants are cacooned in an interior furnished in compressed felt formed as a one-piece pod, without the need for stitching or joins. Even the dashboard and center console features wood elements made from recycled newspaper.
Based on the central carbon structure of the Peugeot 908 Le Mans prototype, the Onyx Concept will have the 3.7 liter V8 hybrid HDI FAP engine from Peugeot's Le Mans efforts as well. A six-speed sequential gearbox transfers all that energy to the rear wheels.
Boasting cutting edge hybrid powertrain technology, the Onyx features a kinetic energy recovery system, converting heat from braking forces into energy for lithium-ion batteries, then reserved for the 80 bhp electric motor.
Beyond tributing towards elemental materials and alt-energy drivetrains, the Onyx Concept also celebrates aerodynamics with a drag coefficient of just 0.30.
A bold design and a daring use of materials, keep an eye out for more information on the Peugeot Onyx, which will headline the French automaker's attendance at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. Check out more images of the Peugeot Onyx and its promo video below:
