A new mother who went to help her neighbor’s two distressed children has been left “traumatized” after finding a dead newborn in their freezer.

At some time between 11.30 am and noon on Dec. 16, Carol Hirst, a resident of Norman Crescent, Rossington in Doncaster, England was alerted by a neighbor about two distressed children who had made the gruesome discovery.

Hirst left her six-week-old baby with her partner, Darnell Jackson, and dashed to the house to discover they were telling the truth.

The 28-year-old mother was shocked to find the frozen body of a newborn baby curled up in the fetal position wrapped in a plastic bag inside the freezer.

“I got a phone call from my neighbor saying I needed to go round as the children had found a baby in a bag in the freezer. So I ran round and saw the bag and saw this baby and broke down,” Hirst told The Mirror.

“My neighbor then came in and saw it, she instinctively called the police and couldn’t speak so I had to take over.”

Hirst then immediately phoned Jackson to come and help.

“I sent my neighbor to mine (with the children) and my partner came round to make sure it was an actual baby as I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

Jackson described the shocking episode during an interview with Yorkshire Live.

“Carol said to me: ‘There’s a dead baby’ and that’s when she hung up.”

“I thought she must be telling the truth but I had to go and check for myself.”

“Carol was on the phone to the police and I had to go through the first living room and I walked through the second living room and saw the plastic Herons bag which had been removed from the freezer.”

“I just literally grabbed the bag to take a look and straight away I could tell it was a dead baby as Carol and I had just had our own baby girl so I knew there was no doubt in my mind.”

“The baby was in the fetal position. You could see that the skin was frozen, there was a lot of frost on its legs.”

“I was shocked and speechless. I work at the local supermarket Herons just across from our house and I recognized the bag immediately.”

“I left then as I couldn’t stay in the house and I had a cigarette in the garden to calm my nerves. I felt physically sick and waited for the police to arrive,” Jackson told the news station.

Hirst said: “The police then came and said it was a crime scene.”

“Coming home to my own six-week-old, it feels as if my own enjoyment of my newborn has been stolen, as every time I look at her all I can see is the child.”

“It makes me feel physically sick.”

While Jackson added: “It’s the sort of thing you see on these crime documentaries.”

“I can’t stop thinking about it. Every time I look at my baby now it comes into my head.”

South Yorkshire Police has confirmed that two women, aged 17 and 45, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. No further details were revealed at the time of this writing.

Temporary Superintendent Jamie Henderson said: “This is an extremely tragic case and I know the local community, and those further afield, will be very upset to hear about what has happened.”

“At this time, our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death is in the very early stages and we ask the public not to speculate about the case.”
