The Nevada school shooting perpetrator, an unamed 12 year old student, has been identified as being of Hispanic origin. In a report by Univision, it has been confirmed that the student at Sparks Middle School who killed his teacher, Mike Landsberry, and injured two fellow classmates yesterday, was of Mexican origin. Nevada school students who were present at the shooting have suggested that the Hispanic shooter was the victim of bullying. 13-year-old Kyle Nucum, a student at Sparks Middle School, told CNN's "The Lead" that the shooter was yelling statements that idicated the attack was a retaliation: "He was yelling a bunch of things while we were running, he was yelling stuff like, 'Why are you laughing at me? Why are you doing this to me?'" The names of the two students injured in the attack have not been released, and it remains unclear whether the student had a specific target in mind. Authorities are yet to determine the exact motive of the kiling, however, police are exploring all avenues.
Meanwhile, the efforts of Landsberry are being praised for mitigating the death toll of this disasterous Nevada school shooting. CNN reports that Landsberry walked towards the shooter after the first shot was fired, saving the lives of students on the playground. Police Chief Mike Mieras has stated that "Mr. Landsberry's heroic actions, by stepping toward the shooter, allowed time for other students in the playground area to flee." Landsberry was a former marine and a popular teacher at the school. A Facebook memorial page for the teacher has reached over 16,000 likes.
