Nelson Mandela is a Nobel Peace Prize Winner, and former president of South Africa. But at 94 years old, Mandela is now suffering from a recurring lung infection. He is listed in serious but stable condition and is breathing on his own, although on June 23, officials revealed that Mandela's health was worsening and he is now in critical condition.

His daughter, Makaziwe Mandela, stated that the family will not end his medical treatment unless Nelson wants them to. "In our culture, the Tembu culture, that I know, the African culture that I know you never release the person unless the person has told you please my children, my family release me. My dad hasn't said that to us. So these people who want to talk about, you know, release him, he hasn't said we should release him and we haven't come to the end yet. It is only God who knows the end," she told CNN.

But it seems that despite Mandela's worsening condition, the 94-year-old is at peace. Nelson is still opening his eyes, and his daughter believes, that he is at peace with himself and his great impact on the world. "Yes, I believe he is at peace. He is at peace with himself. He has given so much to the world I believe he is at peace."

Mandela's two granddaughters, Swati Dlamini and Zaziwe Dlamini-Manaway, took to Twitter and asked people to pray for their influential grandfather, "Let us never forget to pray. God lives. He is near. He is real. He is not only aware of us but cares for us. He is our rock, we are firmly glued together because of him. We are UNITED!" they wrote.

After their plea for prayers, the Twitter-sphere ignited with love and support for Mandela. User recounted his great acts and even recalled some of his inspiring quotes. @NaziaMughal wrote, "Prayers for the worlds's Greatest Leader Neslon Mandela." Another user quoted Mandela's words about his existence and his death writing, "The question of my purpose and existence is not something I bother with because eventually that time will come."

Some users posted their favorite photographs of Mandela, @AyeshaHasan posted a photo of Mandela visiting his Robben Island cell years after he was released.

Other Twitter users simply expressed gratitude, prays and thanks to the man that Mandela is. Scott Simon of NPR wrote, “I think now is a good time to be thankful for what Nelson Mandela has shown our world is possible in a human being.” Designer Kenneth Cole tweeted, "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall" - Nelson Mandela.” Alex Crawford of Sky News tweeted a photo of one hundred white doves being released outside Nelson Mandela's hospital that signify how he freed the country.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mandela and his family.
