The Denver Nuggets made a bit of history during the 2019-20 NBA season. They made it to the Western Conference finals, overcoming a 1-3 series lead at the expense of the Los Angeles Clippers. Though they were bumped off by the Los Angeles Lakers, the Nuggets made a good run.
However, some believe that the Nuggets would do well to consider improving their roster. Such would be ideal considering Denver showed some areas that could use for improvement. One part would be to add a tested player to compliment Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic.
For former Nuggets coach George Karl, Denver may want to look into adding Jrue Holiday of the New Orleans Pelicans. He suggests a trade involving Michael Porter Jr., a promising player who is still rough behind the edges. Porter’s defense needs work and dealing with him for a veteran like Holiday could make sense.
In Holiday, the Nuggets could get someone who can deliver good numbers. The 30-year-old guard played in 61 games averaging 19 .1 points, 6.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds in 34.7 minutes of action per Basketball-Reference. He could be the guy that could guide and jive well with Murray starting next season.
Age could be a factor to consider. The Nuggets would give up a 22-year-old Porter in the process. Last NBA season, he played in 55 games, averaging 9.3 points and 4.7 rebounds. The sophomore missed the 2018-19 season due to a back injury but is showing promise.
If the Nuggets want to improve on last season’s showing and take it to the next level, a move for Holiday could make sense. Porter could improve more by joining the Pelicans. However, that still depends on who the Pels will take in as their next head coach.
But getting Holiday from the Pelicans will come at a price. He is set to make $25 million next NBA season. Aside from that, there is no telling if New Orleans is open to dealing with the combo guard this offseason.
The same holds for the 14th overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft. After showing what he can do in his first full season, coach Michael Malone may have plans for the 6-foot-10 power forward.
