The Los Angeles Clippers are still trying to regroup though most feel that they need more scoring options. The frontline of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are providing numbers though not enough to carry the Clips. The point guard position could help out and several names are being linked to the team. The latest name is Derrick Rose of the Detroit Pistons.
Rose was able to revive his sagging NBA career. It appeared the former NBA MVP was ready to call it a career at on juncture. But somehow, he was able to turn things around and recall remnants of his old form.
During the 2019-20 NBA season, the 31-year-old played in 50 games averaging 18.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 26 minutes of action per Basketball-Reference.
There were several teams considering him but nothing panned out. Heading into the offseason, interest in the three-time NBA All-Star is expected to grow anew. The Clippers are the latest team to be linked to the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year, aware they need to consider options at the point.
At the moment, it is Patrick Beverly orchestrating plays. Though he has proven to be a gem on defense, the 32-year-old guard lacks the offense that the Clippers need. Last season, he averaged 7.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists. His focus was on defense and the mental game but critics feel the Clippers could get a boost from someone who can also contribute more points.
According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports via Basketball Forever, the Clippers are allegedly looking to acquire Rose from the Pistons. Los Angeles would be more formidable with D-Rose in tow, someone who can score and do the little things that most overlook on defense.
The interest in Rose is understandable with the Clippers needing to do some tweaking in personnel. For now, this should be taken with a grain of salt. However, it would be best to note that Rose did mention he wanted to win a title. He has garnered almost all individual accolades and now wants to savor an NBA title, NBC Sports reported.
“I want to win a championship. That’s what I really want to do. I’ve got all the accolades I want, now it’s time to win,” Rose said.
If that holds up, Rose may consider a move to Los Angeles where he can team up with Leonard and George. The Clips have better chances with the talent they have right now compared to the Pistons and Rose could be that missing link.
