The NBA trade deadline is just a couple of days away and there are players expected to be moved. Unfortunately, Ben Simmons does not appear to be one of them.
Several teams such as the Brooklyn Nets and the Sacramento Kings have been linked to the Australian cager but nothing has gone beyond speculations.
Hence, Simmons may be left with no alternative than to suit up for the Philadelphia 76ers – that is assuming he plans to see some action for the 2021-22 season.
People around Simmons are allegedly telling him to suit up if no trade happens by Feb. 10. And the reason behind that is because the 6-foot-11 stalwart has been on the sidelines for so long that his talent is going to waste, Jake Fischer of the Bleacher Report reported per sources.
Also, sitting out speaks a lot of Simmons’ attitude. His reputation has taken a hit, most feeling that he has grown immature and selfish.
Given the fact that Joel Embiid and Doc Rivers explained their side, even reaching out to the former top pick at some point the past months, shows that they want to see Simmons in action to help the Sixers campaign.
Instead, the 25-year-old ended up playing the waiting game. The obvious is that he wants to be traded but given his lofty contract, most NBA teams prefer to look at other more affordable players.
Also, the fact that his game needs polishing is another concern. Shooting is just one of them but the decision-making or maturity in games is also a red flag.
Simmons is undoubtedly an All-Star and could be an NBA legend of the future. But part of the process is seeing him act like a professional.
Simmons is not the only one who has been sitting out the season so far. John Wall also has yet to see the action but his case is far different from the Australian.
Wall is allegedly willing to suit up for the Houston Rockets but that does not appear to be a mutual agreement at this stage.
