Mike Brown appears to be looking for a head coaching gig and has tried his luck on several teams. The latest club he reportedly interviewed for is with the Los Angeles Clippers. The interview was held recently so it will be interesting if he will make the grade.
The Los Angeles Clippers have yet to name their new head coach after the release of Doc Rivers. Most believe that bungling a 1-3 series advantage against the Denver Nuggets was unacceptable, the second time that Rivers wasted that while calling the shots. Rivers is now the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, starting a new chapter in his NBA coaching career.
Aside from Brown, another candidate for the Clippers head coaching post is Tyronn Lue. Most know that Lue served as one of the assistant coaches of River according to Adrian Wojnarowski. It would make sense to see the 43-year-old take over although nothing has been announced.
Lue interviewed for the position as well but his case is different from Brown. Also worth mentioning is that there are several other NBA teams interested in Lue. The list includes the Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Pelicans.
As for Brown, there is no telling if he has good odds of landing the post. He is best known for guiding the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2005 to 2010. He was also named the NBA Coach of the Year in 2009 and got the chance to coach the Los Angeles Lakers.
Brown held the Lakers head coaching job during the 2011-12 NBA season. After five games the following year, he was relieved with Lakers' management unhappy with the club’s showing. From there, Brown found his way to the Golden State Warriors fold, serving as an associate coach to Steve Kerr, NBC Sports reported.
However, Brown may have noticed that there are a lot of teams looking for a new head coach. For now, nothing is certain but the former NBA Coach of the Year does have a chance.
If not the Clippers, Brown also interviewed for the Indiana Pacers head coaching vacancy. Should he end up being a head coach again, the Warriors will have an opening in their brain thrust. Alvin Gentry was mentioned as a candidate but a recent update claims that he is close to joining the Sacramento Kings as one of Luke Walton’s deputies.
