NBA Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Could Still Make Sense For Knicks Other Than Retirement

One person who is unlikely to return to the Los Angeles Lakers next season is Carmelo Anthony. The 10-time All-Star signed a one-year deal with the purple and gold and somehow gave a good account of himself.

But those efforts may have gone down the drain, especially after the Lakers failed to at least make the NBA playoffs. Although LeBron James may still have a say in it, there is no telling if Los Angeles will re-sign the 37-year-old cager.

The fact that Anthony is already at that age where some players ponder retirement. But if one looks at his averages last season, there is no question that the former top pick could still be of use to other teams coming off the bench.

In 69 games last season, Anthony averaged 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and an assist in 26 minutes of action.

One team that has repeatedly been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Anthony is the New York Knicks. He has touched on the matter in the past despite the fact he left the franchise on a sour note in 2017.

"New York...this is home. The love that I have here in this city, what I was able to represent, it's bigger than basketball," Anthony stated via @sny_knicks back in November.

But considering the Knicks are investing more in youth, a second-coming may not make sense. Unless head coach Tom Thibodeau would not mind bringing in a veteran who would come off the bench, the chances of Melo returning to Gotham remain uncertain.

Anthony has been around the league for quite some time now. Aside from the Lakers and the Knicks, he has also suited up for the Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets and the Portland Trail Blazers.

There is no telling if the 2013 NBA Scoring champion would want a proper send-off. But if that is on the table, potentially wrapping up his career with the Nuggets may make even more sense.
