Take it from a former first-pick overall pick in the NBA.
Andrew Bogut took notice of LaMelo Ball’s passing ability that will enable him to land high in the 2020 NBA Draft. Though he has not faced the 18-year old guard, he is seeing the potential of the youngest of the Ball brothers per USA Today.
“Obviously a player who knows how to read the game well. You can tell when he gets in the lane and a guy helps, he can tell exactly where the guy is helping from and where the ball should go,” the Sydney Kings center said. “Unbelievable passer and playmaker. I think sometimes very flashy, both positively and negatively sometimes.”
In his four games, Ball is averaging 13.38 points, 6.75 rebounds, 5.75 assists and 1.75 steals for the Illawarra Hawks per NBL site. The most visible downside on his game so far is his low field-goal percentage, which is currently at 30.25 percent.
In a discussion on Heavy, they consider the 6-foot-7 teenager as the future star guard for the New York Knicks. The Big Apple supporters have been suffering for their team’s performances, no thanks to their failed attempts of convincing big names to sign with the team such as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Looking at their stats from the current season, the David Fizdale-led team is currently 29th in the league in scoring and the poor distribution of the ball can partly be blamed for not finding the best possible opportunity to score. They are also not doing well with their assists rate as a team for they are ranked 28th in the NBA.
LaMelo appears to excel in the open court and his court vision. Throwing fancy passes and shooting threes from MSG’s parking lot can ignite Madison Square Garden and finally find entertainment with their team’s play. At his height, he is big for a guard and can create match-up problems for smaller guards.
But first, he needs to prepare himself for the attention that he will be getting from the media, especially in New York should he be drafted by the Knicks. It’s a good sign that he’s with the team in NBA 2K20 that he created.
