LeBron James is by far the most polarizing player in the NBA. Every NBA fan and player out there has an opinion about his actions, especially former teammate Dwyane Wade.
"Listen, I'm not ring chasing. I told you that. If I was ring chasing, it would be a different conversation. I'm lucky, and I'm blessed. Obviously, we talked. But it wasn't..it's cool to talk about certain things but 3.5... nothing wrong with $3.5 million, but ... nothing wrong with it all," Wade said.
Wade and James were previously teammates in Miami for a four year period that saw the Heat absolutely dominate the Eastern Conference. All four years that Wade and James were together in South Beach, they advanced to the NBA Finals winning two championships.
Although James performed at an elite level, he was criticized by many fans and members of the media for his decision at the time. Many claimed he was taking the easy road to a title by joining Wade’s Heat with Chris Bosh. James’ title with the Cleveland Cavaliers this previous season was his first without Wade.
Wade signed with the Chicago (his hometown) Bulls this offseason on a two year contract worth up to $47 million with a player option in the second year. Even if Wade was a “ring chaser,” there’s just no realistic way for him to sign with the Cavaliers because of the NBA’s salary cap restrictions.
Kevin Durant has been getting criticized for doing the same thing this offseason. Durant chose to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder via free agency to join the already loaded Golden State Warriors on a short term deal. Durant is widely regarded as one of the best players in the game today, but many still feel as if he is “ring chasing” with the Warriors.
