Today is National Voter Registration Day, and Facebook is putting their new Voting Information Center to fair use. Facebook Watch is premiering Vote-A-Thon 2020, a non-partisan special event, produced by Westbrook Media. The event will bring together celebrities and public figures from all across the nation on Tuesday, September 22 at 8 AM PT/11 AM ET.
Vote-A-Thon 2020 will celebrate and pay tribute to the notion that every eligible person has a place in the election and a right to make their voice heard. The star-studded and educational event will be hosted by Liza Koshy and feature celebrities and public figures including Alicia Keys, Ben Watson, Cassadee Pope, Cesar Millan, Common, Gabrielle Union, Hannah Bronfman, Henry Winkler, Jada Pinkett Smith, Keke Palmer, Kenan Thompson, Lily Collins, Maddie Ziegler, Madison Beer, Matthew McConaughey, Meghan Trainor, Natasha Rothwell, Noah Centineo, Steve Harvey, Tyler Rich, Willie & Korie Robertson, Will Smith, Willow Smith, and more.
According to the social media platform, the star-studded, and educational special has the goal of registering 4 million voters in what has become the largest voting information campaign in American history. The company estimates they have helped 2.5 million people register so far this year across, between Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.
Like the classic telethon, Vote-A-Thon 2020 will also feature a “daisy chain” of calls between some of America’s most notable celebrities and public figures ranging from impassioned to informative to humorous, all with the goal of driving viewers to Facebook’s Voting Information Center to empower every voter with access to official, up-to-date information.
Facebook wants to help people navigate the new complexities of COVID-19 by connecting people with the latest information about registering and voting. Vote-A-Thon 2020 will cover critical topics such as voter registration, voting by mail, poll worker recruitment, and setting the record straight on common misconceptions.
The special will also spotlight human interest stories from communities across the country, featuring the unsung heroes of the election process along with stories of first-time voters and 21st-time voters, that connect and inspire people to get involved in our election process. It will also highlight the gaps in poll worker recruitment and show viewers all the ways they can help out and get involved in their communities by volunteering.
