If you have a sweet tooth and are looking for an excuse to stop counting your carbs, sugar, and fats, then today is the day to celebrate. Luckily, Dec. 9 marks the arrival of National Pastry Day.

This tiny delicacy is one of the favorite desserts of every sweet lover. The day is celebrated to encourage people to cook and eat pastries.

The culinary art form of pastry-making developed in the Middle East during the 7th century.

It then eventually spread to Europe and the French and Italian chefs developed their own recipes and version of this tiny sweet.

Nowadays, foodies all around the world enjoy different types of pastry including shortcrust, flaky, puff, choux, and phyllo.
