Can "Nashville" handle the arrival of another pop diva? It will have to because on January 15, when the show returns from a small winter break singer Kelly Clarkson will be making a cameo appearance. The episode "I'll Keep Climbing" Clarkson will play herself and perform with Clare Brown (Scarlett O'Connor) and Sam Palladio (Gunnar Scott). Showrunner Dee Johnson spoke with TV Line saying, "As you recall one of the most popular songs of last season is a song that Gunner and Scarlett wrote- "Fade into You.""
"And in fact, in real life, [Kelly's] actually cutting that song," Johnson said. There is not much more known about Clarkson's appearance but she will be the first musician to guest star on the show and perform. Previous musical guest include Brad Paisley, Chris Young, Vince Gill, Dan Auerbach and Brantley Gilbert. The song Clarkson will be singing is Fade into You by Mazzy Star. Clarkson performed this song last year when she appeared in North Carolina. Speaking about the track the singer said it is a track she keeps on repeat.
"This song happens to be a song...I know you all have these, your repeat songs that you listen to hypnotically on repeat over and over. This is that song for me." The news that Clarkson would appear on the show came after the mid-season finale on Thursday. Clarkson will not likely have a recurring role but her story will bring together Scarlett and Gunnar. Their on again off again relationship has hit an impasse as Gunnar has been dating Zoe, Scarlett's best friend and the couple kept it secret.
