Nancy Pelosi's Husband Paul Pelosi Taken Into Custody For DUI

US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul Pelosi was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) in Northern California.

According to a sheriff’s office online booking report, the 82-year-old was arrested late Saturday in Napa County north of San Francisco, reported the Associated Press. The report said that Paul could face charges including driving with a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 or higher, and driving under the influence. Records showed that his bail was set for $5,000 for the two misdemeanors.

ABC News reported that the California Highway Patrol in Napa said that units responded to a crash involving two vehicles. It happened at 10.26 p.m Saturday at Walnut Lane. Paul, who has been married to Nancy since 1963, was driving a Porsche and traveling eastbound on Walnut Lane. He tried to cross SR-29 when his car was hit by a party traveling northbound on SR-29 in a Jeep. Paul was arrested for driving under the influence, said the highway patrol. After his arrest, he was booked into the Napa County Detention Center.

Nancy's office said in a statement that she was across the U.S. at the time of her husband's arrest. The California Democrat did not want to discuss it further. The statement read that she will "not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast."

On Sunday, she was in Providence, Rhode Island, to deliver the 2022 commencement address at Brown University where she was also awarded an honorary doctorate degree. The House leader delivered a speech and called on graduates to help unify a "deeply divided" country. She was referencing the recent "senseless" mass shootings in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas.

She told the crowd of graduates that she sees "dazzling brilliance, beautiful diversity." She said that she sees the future, and "it is you. So class of 2022, go forward with courage to build unity and hold on to your hope." She also took to Twitter where she urged people to join her live "as I deliver the Commencement Oration to 2022 graduates and receive an honorary doctorate degree."
