A married man was reportedly on a live video game chat when he was shot by his wife. The suspect was identified as Emily Ikuta who had just come home from walking their dog and shot her husband, Jourell Ng, last week near Twain and El Capitan.

Ikuta, who is facing murder charges, initially made up a story about her husband’s death. In a report from KNTV, the Las Vegas woman called 911 and initially said that she discovered her husband face down when she got back home after walking their dog. She suggested that the husband may have intentionally shot himself to death.

However, Ikuta’s claims were inconsistent by police due to the evidence and the recount of witnesses. One unnamed neighbor recounted hearing the couple arguing at the time. Also, it turns out that the husband was having a live video game chat with one of his friends online. The unnamed friend stated that they heard what sounded like a gunshot at that time and immediately called the police.

“They informed detectives they heard [Ng’s] dog barking in the background of the call, prior to hearing a slapping noise they believed was a gunshot,” according to the official police report.

The initial claim of Ikuta was that her husband could have shot himself as he was cleaning the firearm. The 37-year-old alleged that she found the gun lying on the floor near the body of her late husband and then locked the gun in a closet.

But when an investigation was made, there was no “large pooling of blood” where the body of Ng was found. Gun-cleaning materials found near the victim’s body did not appear to be used as well.

Lastly, the bullet the claimed the life of Ng had a downward trajectory. This countered Ikuta’s claim that the gun was fired as Ng was cleaning it at a shelving unit.

Ikuta is now detained at the Clark County Detention Center without bond. Her preliminary hearing is set for Apr. 8.
