A mutilated corpse was left unrecognizable after being reportedly run over by several vehicles multiple times on the Jaipur-New Delhi Highway in India on Tuesday, June 22.
The unfortunate discovery was retrieved near a bus stand in the Kotputli's Paota area during the early hours of Tuesday, June 22. After authorities from the Paragpura Police Station arrived at the scene, they claimed that the human corpse was found to be completely torn apart and mutilated, the Times of India reported.
Even though thousands of people reportedly travel by the highway on an hourly basis, nobody bothered to inform an ambulance or the police about the incident, authorities confirmed.
"We received information around 5:51 am and dispatched a team to the area which reached the spot immediately. We found that the body was completely disfigured on the road and the face was crushed beyond recognition," a police officer from the Paragpura police station said.
The police reportedly covered the body with a cloth and moved it from the highway to a local hospital mortuary in the Kotputli area.
Efforts are being made to identify the victim, Kotputli Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dinesh Kumar Yadhav said. He added that surveillance footage from CCTV cameras in the area has been retrieved by authorities to ascertain the victim's identity and his cause of death.
Jaipur Rural Police suspect that the accident must have occurred during the wee hours after midnight on Tuesday. Vehicles passing by the route may not have seen the body as it was dark in the area.
"He may have died after being hit by a speeding vehicle near Paota. It is also likely that instead of multiple vehicles, an overloaded multi-axle truck may have plowed into him, " an official confirmed.
The location where the accident occurred is roughly 160 kilometers away from the city and is usually packed with tons of vehicles and people at all times. Still, nobody called to inform the authorities about the incident.
An official reportedly said that even the victim's clothes were torn apart from being run over multiple times and, due to this, his proofs of identification were not found.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 25-year-old laborer, identified as Ranjit Singh Chauhan from Uttar Pradesh, went missing in early January this year and was later found dead by a roadside near Ayali Kalan, Punjab, India on January 3 morning.
The body was discovered being feasted on by stray dogs by some locals. It was in a heavily mutilated state by the time authorities arrived on the scene. The victim was later identified with the help of his clothes and a locket found on his body, Hindustan Times reported.
According to the police, unidentified attackers allegedly hacked the victim to death with sharp-edged weapons and later dumped the body in the bushes.
Personnel rivalry is believed to be the motive behind the murder. The police also reportedly recovered a chunk of hair belonging to the victim on his bike, suggesting that the victim may have engaged in a fight with the attackers before his death.
