When we talk about the Millennial Generation, we're also referring to Generation Y or "Echo Boomers." People who were born from the early 1980s to the early 2000s. This generation is known for an increased use and familiarity with communication, media and digital technologies, and let's face it, when we were born computers already existed and were affordable for a lot of households.

We grew up bombarded by either TV, radio, print ads and now social media. We got our first cellphone before we were teenagers and honestly, don't remember how life was before that. Going to the library to study? Only for finals when we need peace to memorize the class, because we can find any book online and read it on our iPads or Kindles.

Yes, it's the world we're growing up in, and MTV Latin America didn't want to pass the opportunity to honor those "echo boomers" who've somehow made headlines, either because they're hot, or made it in the music or movie scene, had a viral social media feature, or celebrities who've used Twitter and Instagram to share their lives without filtering.

Those are the "Millennial Awards," the biggest party of our generation that will take place in Mexico on July 16. The ceremony will be streamed online and on July 28 it will be broadcast on MTV Latin America. Among the categories to be awarded are "Digital Icon of the Year," "Tweeter of the Year," "Song that you couldn't get out of your head," "Couple who set fire to the screen," "Most epic movie," "Extreme athlete," "Digital Addiction," "Most sociable network," "Viral of the Year," "Unfiltered Celebrity on Instagram," "Hottie of the year," "Videogame of the Year," and more.

Among the nominees, Justin Bieber, Belinda, Bruno Mars and Jesse & Joy grace the list with their presence, and even Psy got a couple of nominations. Mexican movie "Nosotros los Nobles" scored one nomination, competing with "Iron Man 3," "Fast and Furious 6," and "Springbreakers," and even YouTube sensation Colibritany might take home an award if she wins in the "Viral of the year" category.

So far, not many details of this amazing party have been revealed, but we're sure it's going to be over the top, and if you want to be a part of this cool event, you can start by voting for your favorites and make sure to check MTV Latin America in a few weeks to check the award show via streaming.
