A mother of three was shot dead by a security guard outside a Dallas strip club after she allegedly struck the guard with her car, authorities said.
The victim, 32-year-old Shalanda Anderson, was shot outside XTC Cabaret Dallas, the city’s largest strip club, just after 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, according to the Dallas Police Department said.
Dallas Fire-Rescue transported her to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.
According to a statement released by the club, Anderson had plowed her vehicle into a group of security guards.
A 26-year-old unidentified female security guard was pinned between the car and another vehicle.
The guard then opened fire at the Anderson, who was inside the vehicle, before she could "seriously injure or kill others," the club said.
"We would like to express our deepest condolences to the families involved. Club management has reached out to the family of the individual who died and offered to pay for her funeral," the club said in a statement.
The guard suffered "multiple broken bones" and must undergo surgery, the club added.
Another security officer, identified only as a 30-year-old male, had also fired shots at Anderson’s vehicle, the Dallas Police Department said in an official statement.
Anderson's family told WFAA they suspected foul play. Her family and friends staged a protest outside the business on Sunday, demanding its shut down.
A friend of the deceased woman said the staff had asked Anderson and her party to leave the club after they got into an altercation over the amount of change Anderson was due after paying her tab.
"At this time we are crying out for her 3 children that [have] been left behind due to senseless gun violence," the friend, Kaye Kaye, wrote on a GoFundMe page.
Anderson's mother, Benita Lofton, said her daughter "[Shalonda] had a good heart," and "just wanted the best for her kids, that's all she talked about."
"For my grandbaby to come up to me and ask me, 'Granny is my mom in the sky?' That took a lot out of me," she added.
Anderson’s family said XTC's owner has offered to take care of her funeral expense.
The Dallas Police Department is investigating the incident.
"A grand jury referral will be submitted to the Dallas County District Attorney’s office," the department said.
