A woman revealed that she canceled her wedding after learning that her mother paid her fiance to go out with her.
The woman, who has not been named, told Buzzfeed that the whole thing was a set up by her own mother.
The woman said that she and her boyfriend have been seeing each other for two months. The man proposed and gifted the woman a huge diamond ring which she couldn’t refuse, the woman told the outlet.
"I was with a guy who proposed after two months of dating. It was all so fast and I was head over heels, so when he proposed with a massive diamond, I just went for it and said yes. I had nothing to lose," the woman said.
The man insisted that they should get married as soon as possible because they were so in love, the woman added.
The woman said her mother was also excited about the wedding. However, the woman became suspicious after her mother began splashing huge amounts of money into the wedding.
"My parents usually weren’t big spenders, so as our wedding day got closer, I got suspicious," the woman said.
The woman told the outlet that her mother bought her an expensive wedding dress. When she asked her fiance why he wasn’t paying for the expenses, he simply replied that her mother would "butt in and say they insisted".
"He claimed his family was poor, which didn’t make much sense in retrospect considering the rock he proposed to me with," the woman told the outlet.
The woman visited the store from where her fiance bought the ring to find out if it was a real diamond.
"The man at the store said it was one-of-a-kind and he remembered it being bought. Apparently, my fiancé didn’t buy it, my mother did! And get this, she bought it a month before my fiancé and I started dating," the woman said.
The woman then confronted her parents and learned that her mother had paid the guy to take her out.
"Then I put it all together and confronted her and my father about it. It turns out, she met him through a friend and paid him to go out on our first date (to a five-star restaurant)," the woman said.
"She paid for all of our dates and, of course, my wedding because she was so desperate for me to get married and he was just in it for the money," she added.
The woman said she recently turned bisexual and suspects that her mother was doing all this as she was desperate to get her married to a man.
"I had come out as bisexual about a year before all of this. I wonder if it was because she was so desperate to see me with a man and not a woman. I am now dating a wonderful woman and my mother and I no longer speak," the woman said.
