A woman has been accused of heinously killing her two-month-old baby and hiding the infant's remains inside a microwave in the Chirag Dilli area, Delhi, India on Sunday, March 20.
The suspect, identified only as Dimple, 26, was arrested on Tuesday, March 22, after she allegedly murdered her child on Sunday night and spent an entire evening with the corpse before concealing the body inside a microwave on the second floor of her home, India Today reported.
At around 4.30 p.m. on Monday, March 21, the police received information about a missing child and responded to the toddler's house. However, when they reached the spot, they found that the baby had been taken to Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital for treatment. After the officers rushed to the health facility, the hospital staff informed them that the child was dead upon arrival.
After the authorities launched an investigation into the incident, it was found that at the time of the alleged murder, the mother was alone at the residence with her 3-year-old son and her infant daughter. The officers questioned everyone in the home and, based on the circumstantial evidence, the police subsequently took the mother into custody, DNA India reported.
"During questioning, she seemed mentally disturbed as she was continuously changing her statement while narrating the incident. However, when I asked her this morning, she partially confessed to the crime," the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Benita Mary Jaiker, said.
The initial autopsy report revealed that the child had died on Sunday night, March 20, due to smothering. Severe injury marks were also found on the child's head.
The authorities are currently awaiting a detailed post-mortem report of the baby's death. According to the investigating officers, the mother has proven uncooperative in their inquiry and is constantly changing her statements.
Dimple reportedly married her husband Gulshan some years back and also has a 3-year-old son.
