A mother who couldn’t bear the sudden demise of her young son, who hanged himself to death, allegedly killed herself by coming under the wheels of a speeding vehicle.
The shocking incident occurred around 11 am on Tuesday, Aug.19, just two hours after 20-year-old Mohan Gowda reportedly hanged himself at his home in Marenahalli, Bengaluru, India.
Following the boy’s suicide, his father, Lokesh J K, filed a complaint at the Vijayanagar police station, mentioning that his son had fallen in a bad company of boys.
According to the complaint, on Tuesday, Gowda came home and locked himself inside his room before taking the extreme step.
Few social media posts claimed Gowda took the extreme step allegedly after the police summoned him for an investigation into a motorbike theft.
However, the police clarified on Wednesday that they had never called the boy to the police station and that no case of bike theft has been registered against him.
According to police, Gowda had a fight with two of his friends, who accused him of stealing their motorbike. The boys followed him home and got into a heated argument with his father. He got so upset that he decided to end his life.
"When Mohan Gowda had locked up his room, few boys were quarreling with his father over a bike issue. The father had sought the help of two policemen who were on duty in the area then. The policemen went to their house and along with the parents, they broke open the door of the room to find Mohan Gowda hanging from the ceiling," Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sanjeev Patil said.
The police officers then assisted to transport the boy to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The news of Gowda’s death disturbed his mother, Leelavathi, who started wailing and frantically running towards the busy road in front of the hospital.
Her younger son Jayanth and sister-in-law, Vijayalakshmi managed to bring her back to the hospital but she eventually freed herself and ran out. She bumped into a speeding car and the drive, who was caught off guard, ended up running her over.
She was brought back to the hospital and pronounced dead.
The police have registered two separate cases over the incidents. While the Vijayanagar police registered a case of unnatural death over Gowda's suicide, their traffic counterparts have opened a case of rash and negligent driving causing death against the car driver.
