A distraught Indian mother reportedly collapsed and died of shock on Wednesday night, June 9, after learning about the brutal ordeal and gang rape of her 19-year-old tribal daughter at the hands of a group of men.
The incident reportedly happened in Malda district, West Bengal, India. The sexual predators are accused of attacking the teen victim and her 16-year-old sister as they were heading home from a wedding ceremony they attended in the village.
The group of men proceeded to forcibly abduct the sisters and take them to two separate spots with intent to assault them separately. Some of the assailants relented and released the younger sister after she fought back and "refused to give in to their filthy proposals.”
However, the elder sister was still brutally gang-raped by the other group, reported The Telegraph India. The older sister too was released by the men after the heinous ordeal. The two immediately sought the help of local villagers who assisted in transporting them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“The principal accused Shailen Soren has been arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim. He has admitted his involvement in the crime and searches are on to nab four others involved in the incident. The case had been handed over to the women police station," Alok Rajoria, the Superintendent of Police in Malda, revealed.
The two girls’ mother reportedly died of shock on Wednesday, June 9, after learning about the assault against her daughters, local authorities confirmed.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a woman was allegedly gang-raped by at least 25 men in May after agreeing to meet a man she began exchanging messages with online, India Today reported.
The victim had reportedly met a man named Sagar via Facebook who proceeded to woo her over. Sagar then reportedly proposed to the woman online, offering to introduce her to his parents if she agreed to come to Hodai.
On May 3, the woman traveled to Hodal to meet Sagar. However, the suspect proceeded to lure her to a forest in Ramgarh village where Sagar, his brother, and a group of his friends allegedly took turns brutally raping her.
The next day, the victim was forcibly brought to the home of a scrap dealer named Akasha who proceeded to invite five other men to rape the woman. The distraught woman's health deteriorated after the consecutive ordeals.
The suspects proceeded to dump and leave her for dead near the Badarpur border and fled. The woman was able to regain consciousness a day later as she sought help at the Hassanpur Police Station and lodged a complaint against Sagar and his accomplices.
In another incident, a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh, India was allegedly raped by six men on May 31, reported The Times Of India.
The woman was reportedly traveling with two of her male friends on a TVS Scooty when the six accused chased away her friends, pinned her down, and took turns forcing themselves on the victim. Three men have been arrested in connection with the case.
