The mother of a former beauty pageant winner reportedly attempted to kill herself after learning about her daughter’s untimely death in a road accident.
The 2019 Miss Kerala winner, 25-year-old Ansi Kabeer, and runner-up, 26-year-old Anjana Shajan died in a car accident near Vytilla, Kerala, India in the wee hours of Monday, Nov.1.
Kabeer’s mother, Razeeena reportedly attempted to end her life early Monday morning by consuming poison.
The incident came to light when a neighbor went to the woman’s home to intimate the family about their daughter’s death.
Upon arrival, the neighbor reported finding the door locked from the inside. It is believed that the woman came to know about her daughter’s demise through some other means and decided to take the extreme step.
The neighbors alerted the police when the woman failed to open the door. However, Raseena later opened the door but was rushed to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram district, after she started vomiting and displayed signs of fatigue, police said.
She is reported to be in stable condition, the New Indian Express reported.
Around 1 a.m. on Monday, Kabeer and Shajan were both traveling in a car along with two others when their vehicle overturned while trying to avoid an oncoming two-wheeler.
"On account of the impact of the accident, the car was totally damaged and the two winners of the beauty event died on the spot," IANS quoted the police as saying.
"One another person who was with them in the car is admitted to a nearby hospital and his condition is serious. He hails from Mala in Thrissur," a police official told PTI. The fourth person is now stable, the outlet reported.
Hours before the fatal accident, Kabeer had uploaded a video on her Instagram account captioned ‘It’s time to go’.
In the video, she can be seen cheerfully walking in the meadow, enjoying nature, before waving her hands and slowly walking out of the camera view.
Her followers and well-wishers flooded the post’s comment section with condolence messages, with many of them saying that she knew it was time to go.
Kabeer has over 22,000 followers on Instagram and Shajan has over 9,000 followers.
