A Lincoln Court, Bethune Road serial rapist is potentially staring down life in prison after being convicted of yet another heinous sex crime.
During a May 2020 incident, 67-year-old Milton Brown reportedly befriended a 29-year-old woman shopping in Hackney Sainsbury’s. He proceeded to persuade her to come back to his Stoke Newington home where he drugged the victim and brutally raped her.
The victim reportedly managed to flee Brown's flat but she was chased down by the assailant on his bike. The woman thankfully managed to seek help from Thames Water engineers who were repairing pipes that night on Seven Sisters Road, the Evening Standard reported.
The suspect was apprehended shortly by the Metropolitan Police. Despite vehemently denying all offenses Brown has been found guilty of rape and assault.
This is not Brown's first brush with law enforcement for the brutal assault of a woman. In 1997, Brown was sentenced to 21 years for raping a woman and sexually assaulting another after inviting them to his place after a night out. He also reportedly made a savage attack against his ex-girlfriend at the time.
During the trial, the serial rapist Brown controversially fired his entire legal team and chose to cross-examine and harass his three victims at the stand himself. The trial caught then Prime Minister Tony Blair’s attention which impelled him to change the law involving inquiries into sexual assault cases.
Suspected sexual offenders have since been banned from questioning their victims on the stand after a High Court judge ruled it amounted to a second assault, My London News noted.
Brown was described as “the evilest man” by a detective assigned to the 1997 case.
Brown was unanimously convicted on Monday by a jury at Wood Green Crown Court of two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, and one count of assault by penetration following a three-week trial.
In 1996, Brown reportedly threatened two women at knifepoint, choking one of them before raping one woman twice and twice indecently assaulting the other.
Brown has also been handed a consecutive five-year term for grievous bodily harm after an attack on Susan Mcdonald, 36, who was in crutches for months after his vicious assault and died of an overdose in 2004.
In 1978, Brown had also been convicted for robbery, aggravated burglary, and actual bodily harm.
“Milton Brown is a serial sex offender who will always be a danger to women,” Melissa Garner, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said. “Brown has never shown any regret for his actions. This conviction has resulted in a dangerous sexual predator being held accountable for his crimes.”
Detective Sergeant Simon Fields, who led the latest investigation, said that Brown is a highly dangerous predator.
“There was also a victim from a previous crown court trial that Brown was acquitted for in 2019, who came to court and bravely gave evidence of this previous investigation to support the crown’s bad character application against Milton Brow,” Fields added. “I hope this verdict shows other victims of serious sexual offenses to come forward and report it.”
However, Judge Joanna Greenberg QC, who presided over the latest trial, said it would be “too prejudicial” for a jury to hear a conviction of Brown having unwanted sex with a 12-year-old girl in 1992.
“The Met is absolutely committed to doing everything we can to keep women and girls safe, and to feel safe, in London,” Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett, commander of Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said. “Our teams stop at nothing to investigate reports of sexual offenses and to provide support to victims.”
