Putting speculations (finally) to rest, the makers of the massively successful “Money Heist” have finally confirmed its return with season 5. While the very announcement by Netflix sent fans into a tizzy, there isn’t going to be a release any time before the summer of 2021.
Rumour also has it that the show might make its way into the screens for release in two halves again, with the first in August 2021 and the other in 2022, as reported in What’s on Netflix. Here’s everything to know about the much-awaited installment.
1) On the show’s renewal: Yes, as confirmed by Netflix in August 2020, the show will have a fifth installment as it has been officially renewed. But, here’s a bummer: the fifth will be the final installment in the Spanish series. Alex Pina, a television producer, writer, series creator, and director of the show released a statement on the renewal.
“We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.”
2) What to expect: Throwing hints at what could be coming next on the show, Alex Pina stated, “The gang will now be pushed into irreversible situations, into a wild war. It is the most epic part of all the parts we’ve shot.” Pina further added, “We have spent almost a year thinking about how to destroy the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes.
How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth season of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.”
3) The no. of episodes: If recent reports (Formula TV and Netflix media center) are anything to go by, season 5 is likely to be longer -- with two more episodes, as compared to its previous episodes, bringing it to a total of 10.
4) Cast: Back in August last year, when the official announcement of the fifth installment was made, Netflix dropped major hints about the entry of two new characters. Firstly, as reported on What’s On Netflix, just when Sense8 alum Miguel Ángel Silvestre was announced to be part of season 5, the dapper actor took to Instagram to confirm the news, and excitedly shared “Mamaaaa! How lucky I am? Maximo of joy!” (as translated in English).
